No longer available?! That's crap. This video was awesome, and I LOVED being able to watch it regularly without booting DOS.

Man, I miss those days so much. I was getting into tracking/demos the last few years of the High Desert BBSing scene. Future Crew was, is, and will always be, utter win.

Watching these demos back in '93 I couldn't grasp the complexity of the code behind it. Only recently I tried to program DirectX for a business application and then I realized how complex it is to code 3D from scratch. Unfortunately most of these guys ended writing banking or similarly boring applications for insanely bureaucratic software houses.

I think games and demo music are the origins of the today's electronic music scene. Growing up in 8 and 16 bits sounds like this... sound channels from 1 to a lot of... After the built in sounds of the Videoton TV computer (in Hungary) the famous C64 and Amiga there are soundcards from Adlib, through Gravis... we allways heard music's like this! It's not a wonder that today we do the same but it's now called electronic trance, dance etc. music

definitely... second reality was one of the very first times i heard music like this, when i was about 11. remember being stunned by the graphics and music running on my 486! still get goosebumps at 5:14. now i'm a well known international recording artist making breakbeat, drum'n'bass etc. so thanks a lot skaven and purple motion! big up the scene(s) :)

Nice to see this again. It is crazy some of the things you find these days. I remember watching this on my 486 at the time. Inspired me to search for my two favorite ansi groups iCE and ACiD. You can still download the old packs.

This was in the days a PC could hardly put an image on the screen. Much respect!

you should all see the commodore 64 version of it(watch?v=zVPW40ygds4), that one is really cool because it works on a computer that is 10 years older than this one. But this on is great too.

DirectX is not " ... ( 1 month ago by olppa1)
DirectX is not "from scratch". Modern graphic cards+directX make many crucial calculations for you. Old school you coded your own polygon etc fillers from scratch. Your own asm code actually did put every pixel on screen. Inner loops had to be fast. -) Ofcourse effects in demos were precalculated as much as possible. These Future Crew guys worked on some gfx card, after that dont know where they went..

I think some of them started Futuremark (makers of the 3DMark benchmarks) and some went to Remedy (Death Rally, Max Payne). Not sure who went where, though.

Phew!!! Brought back a lot of memories! I just threw away my 3 GUS (red wafer boards) cards and the old 286 and 486 they were on. I remember sitting in the dark watching the beginning of this demo - the ship flying overhead really sounded like it was flying over my head thanks to Q-Sound (remember that technology?). Thanks for posting!

This was a shockin trip... I learned how to use trackers by listening and studying PM's Second Reality... Thanks again for putting this here.
