We're a major exporter of lumber and concrete (especially to China and Japan), agriculture ($100B a year), and more. Your right, there is something I don't understand. Horrible health care system, low literacy rates, high-infant mortality, high personal debt, highest capital punishment rate, high crime rate (facts according to the UN, and the U.S.A Government). As well as, dwindling natural resources (find me some domestic oil reserves). Our how about long-lasting sources of fresh water that are safe (Michigan is nearly not save). My question is simply: What is so great? And I don't even like Soviet Russia.

I was looking up in the CIA World Fact book (an American Government Source, in case you didn't know) and it showed that aggregates and lumber exports made up less than 1% of your economy. Huh, I guess the government and world economy would disagree... Weird. As for agriculture. I'll admit, you got me there. The world's largest agricultural subsidies belong to the U.S.A and they are quite successful at producing produce. Subsidized just like the Soviet Union.

Well, that is why you and I disagree! What makes something great in your eyes, is the ability to force your ways of life on others (for better or for worse). I believe a great nation will be able to use logic, sense, and science to encourage their way of life on others (for better or for worse) As for your strong military. Things change, look at India and China, their militarys are quickly evolving into modern-warfare machines. Give them time, and we shall see who is strongest.

I know, if i were born like a decade earlier I would probably feel differently about the Soviets, but they were a damn respectable enemy. I mean I pity the Iraqi insurgence, we just bust into there homeland and start shooting, they've got no guns no money, there real troopers, you cant feel bad for an enemy thats part of one of the strongest militarizes on the planet.

Robeson's support of communism strikes me as odd, considering his religious conviction (as compared to the religious intolerance of the USSR). Robeson's biggest involvement there, though, was immediately after World War II, and before the Cold War was really up and running (before the first Soviet atomic bomb in 1949).
