Nuclear Power

Uploaded by: Libertarianist
Video Description:
Nuclear Power is clean, green, safe, and cheap. It is the silver bullet for carbon alternatives. Those who claim it is unclean or unsafe are ignorant and tragically misinformed.
Antinuclear power groups are run by demagogues. Their intention is to get you afraid of what you don't understand so they can be elected and pass ridiculous laws you understand even less. Nuclear energy is nothing to fear, and is the ONLY viable alternative to fossil fuels. And is extremely clean
, safe, and cheap. http://physics.isu.edu/radinf/np-risk.htm http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/thyd/ne161/alwong/ne161.html

We know your libertarian position on things - Push for no regulations, worry about things later if something does happen. This is a lot like our banking system implosion - lots of deregulation and then when things go wrong, you will opt for the "socialist" bailout. But you never opt for the preventative medicine. They still don't make casks for spent fuel that can survive more than 10,000 years, much less being dumped into a deep ocean trench as you suggest.
Your natural gas ... ( 1 week ago by HiTekVagabond)
Your natural gas has peaked and is dwindling quickly. Build wind farms. You have plenty constant, reliable wind along your coasts. You are already the world's 7th largest producer of wind power. Build solar thermal installations. You have plenty of Mediterranean sun. Believe me, you don't need nuclear power mess.

On February 17, 2005, the UK Atomic Energy Authority reported that 29.6 kg (65.3 lb) of plutonium, enough to make seven nuclear bombs, was unaccounted for in auditing records at the Sellafield nuclear fuel reprocessing plant. Was it heisted or was it just a minor accounting error? They claim 29.6 kg is only 0.5% of all of the plutonium in their inventory. Sellafield is supposedly secure, but the plutonium is gone. Hopefully, the next hint where went to does not come as a mushroom cloud.

I've also heard that about Vermont Yankee. However, I don't think that's enough of a reason to just close and lock the doors. It is possible to replace the reactor vessel and (if the fatigue is serious enough) that could be done at a price that would most likely fit into an extended maintenance budget. (Meaning they would've liked NOT to have spent it, but it isn't so much it makes the plant unprofitable for the extended 20 year lifespan.)

Vermont Yankee has ... ( 1 week ago by HiTekVagabond)
Vermont Yankee has been running for 35 years. They did the largest power uprate in NRC history. In 2003 they took the plant down because a valve was inoperable. Then they figured out that the valve did not exist. Last year, the cooling tower on it collapsed totally on its own. The operating company does not have the $1.7 Billion to decommission it. So they want to put it into SAFSTOR until 2067 when their fund has grown enough. On and on with this one. It's a disaster waiting to happen.
Yup, who says the ... ( 1 week ago by HiTekVagabond)
Yup, who says the vacuum building will be able to suck everything up when it decides to pop its cork? Besides, nukes have periodic "ventings" of radioactive gases for nice little babies to inhale down wind. Also, the feature makes it that much easier for a terrorist to fly a plane right through the paper thin containment building.
(Con't) Yankee has ... ( 1 week ago by HiTekVagabond)
(Con't) Yankee has a relatively poor safety record over its lifetime so far. How can Entergy afford to maintain the old scrap heap when they don't even have the money to decommission it. Entergy has been spending down the decomissioning fund and now that the stock market is down, their fund has shrunken even further. It would not surprise me if taxpayers are going to be asked to pony up the shortfall just like they did in Connecticut and Massachusetts when their nuke plants were shut down.
I'm not sure all ... ( 1 week ago by nucflashevent)
I'm not sure all plants have that, the venting I mean. I'm also not sure about the proof that says it doesn't degrade to a safe level (in the sense that it dilutes in the air) before even leaving the plants grounds, much less making it to outside population. The problem with this is that there has never been a truly independent study of the situation. I'm not prepared to say all things Nuclear are too bad to utilize, however I do agree more independent study is needed (not by Greens/Industry)
BWR's like Vermont ... ( 1 week ago by HiTekVagabond)
BWR's like Vermont Yankee vent radioactive gases pretty routinely to depressurize the system. Most of the gases can be filtered out, but there is not much that can be done about tritium which is a very small atom. Vermont Yankee in its 1st yr of operation released over a 180,000 curies into the atmosphere; over its first 25 yrs it released over 380,000 curies. Even after filters were added, Vermont Yankee on average still releases over 3,000 curies/yr into the Connecticut River Valley.
(con't) Vermont ... ( 1 week ago by HiTekVagabond)
(con't) Vermont Yankees airborne waste includes Strontium, Iodine, Cesium, and a wide variety of Xenon isotopes. The National Academy of Science in its BEIR VII report acknowledged that there was no safe exposure to radiation. I agree it's hard to put together an independent study. I would think that a team of several university professors whose funding strings are not controlled by the government, industry, or green funding would be good start.

u r a retard libertarianist. nuclear power produces just as much CO2 in the mining and transportation of the uranium as it does in fossil fuels and it costs
£2 billion to build that's three times as much as a gas alternative. to clean up at the end of its production it cost £4.8 billion. learn your facts before u make another video u American fool. love from me xx

No it doesn't you obviously haven't run the numbers, I have. You really think that it takes a thousand pounds of coal to mine 3 grams of uranium? Just think about it. If it took more energy to make uranium than you get out of it it wouldn't be an energy source.

Obviously your video is about being a follower of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the rest of the Fox News mentality.
No one is saying that wind and solar would fill the demand. You are a moron to create such strawman in this manner. It is exactly how media whores like Hannity and Limbaugh and god knows what other hillbilly AM radio jock you've been educated by. "Capable of surviving the worst scenario" What thi
s nation can't survive is the ditto heads like you having the right to vote!!!

What greater way for an evolved white trash Christian to legitimize his Oz gotten brain than to present himself as an expert on nuclear science. A huge laugh! How is that your video on how Micheal Moore and Al Gore have held back our solutions to our energy problems goes with your overt need to expose your savior complex? Could it be because you were spawned by the culture of the klan? Being an atheist won't wash off filth of the Micheal Savage mentality you stink of!

The lifecycle ... ( 1 day ago by subach)
The lifecycle average CO2 emissions for a nuclear power plant are around 60g/kwh of electricity produced. This figure includes construction, mining, operation, and waste disposal and is the mean in an analysis of 100 studies on the subject. This compares to 1kg/kwh for coal and 32g/kwh for solar. See Benjamin K. Sovacool's study published in the august edition of "energy policy". I suggest you not call anyone a retard why making statements completely at odds with reality.

ilumycombineharvest ... ( 8 hours ago by dsmpowerr)
ilumycombineharvest, you are a moron, you have no understanding of nuclear reaction what so ever. if you've done your HW, you would know that CO2 is a combined elements of carbon and oxygen. usually, there are many atoms in any element in nature, and each atom has a nucleus which is like 2000 times smaller than it self but with VERY DENSE GRAVITY. so when they crack it, it produces allot of energy. so don't just talk from your ass if you don't know something.
