Maybe not the best example, but I see your point. Whether I am bald, natural, relaxed, in braids, twists, whatever it may be..I am not my hair. I am black, and I will be black (and proud, thank you), till the day I die. My hair style does not equal my race. Goodness, I long for a day when folks stop using qualifiers (hair, language, lifestyle, wardrobe, mannerism, etc.) to determine whether any given person is being "true" to their race. God created us, but we're the ones creating the standards.

perms are to keep your hair easy to style, and easy to manage stop thinking everyone wants to be white, who cares about them
"style" or " ... ( 8 months ago by thethingkid)
"style" or "lifestyle"? A style is something that you can take out and change. Perm(anetly) frying your hair straight becomes more. Not only does it tkae more maintainance to uphold than natural hair, but in a sense you become a slave to it and the companies that sell the needed products to keep your hair from falling out or breaking off reetee.
You are right, you ... ( 8 months ago by thethingkid)
You are right, you are not your hair. Your hair like the rest of your body is often a representitive of who you are on the inside. What does it say about someone if they use dangerous chemicals(that are actually absorbed by your scalp and into the body) in an attempt to erase a strong black Nubian ethnic feature? Lets list standards to beauty: Small nose, light skin, loose hair texture, light eyes...beginning to sound familiar SchalaKid?

yeah, cause i mean and i know this is way off topic but...how would they feel if we said "oh you tan to make your skin darker just because you wanna be black" i guess tan skin is beautiful to them, they aren't being very natural by going to tanning salons
Let's say a woman ... ( 8 months ago by SchalaKid)
Let's say a woman was to shave her head bald. Reason being? Anything; say she simply "liked the ease of managing the style." Is this woman displaying self-loathing because she isn't wearing what ANOTHER person considered an "acceptable" natural do? Just as the old "brown bag test" was a ridiculous notion, an attempt to negatively qualify (in this case) blackness, I see not why one's hairstyle should --(see below)--
--(con't.)-- ... ( 8 months ago by SchalaKid)
--(con't.)-- automatically qualify them as "weak minded, backwards" blacks. There are (racial) self-loathing blacks with weaves and perms and all the like, to be sure. I've seen the inverse, too. Point is I would absolutely hesistate to call a brother or sister "superior" to another simply on the basis of their hair.
That's not my ... ( 8 months ago by thethingkid)
That's not my message at all. I am not making up test to show "blackness". My message is that you are born into it. You can accept it and be proud. You can represent that pride in every aspect including the physical, or you can try to destroy ethnic identity. That beautiful Kinky hair is to the blacks what slanted eyes or to the beautiful Asian people. Sadly, in America we aren't the only ones trying to look white by erasing physical ethnic identity. You can cut off a perm if you don't want it anymore. =/ But yeah... if I knew how to take care of my hair when I was younger, I wouldn't have relaxed it. Some people really don't know how to take care of it and not coincidentally, as more information turns up more people are taking care of their natural hair. I just think you're putting a lot of energy into this whole "perm= self hate/someone's identity" according to what I see here and other videos you've commented on.

Ok...simple fact...black women get relaxers because its easier to manage...THAT'S IT...there's no science behind it...or any alternate reason, unless someone comes right out and says "I dont like being black, so Im relaxing my hair", which I have yet to hear someone say. I've always heard..."its hard to manage"....jeez, its not that serious.

okayy, its way easier for me to slap a relaxer in and sit under a dryer every 6-8 weeks ( and wash it a couple times) than it is to wear it natural, wash it every other day, do braid outs, detangle it, keep it from getting frizy, blah blah blah, relaxin IS easier, believe me, mine used to be natural but HELL NA'LL, never again, if thats you-do you, let me do me

If it's hard to manage, it's because no one KNOWS their hair and don't want to know it. As a person who has been natural for a long time, I laugh at the statement of manageability 'cause it only takes me five to ten minutes to detangle and walk out the door.

This is usually used with perm rods for. curly perms with "not ethnic" hair.. it leaves the effect of a body wave basically.. but I've never seen it done with rollers, thats something new to try just to see the outcome. but ya'll are right that is alot of rollers to be puttin in a whole head..

there is a much esier way to do this with only 2 rollers, place one roller midway of the hair and wrap hair around, you are then left with a strand hanging out, roll this, now thatll be 35 dollars, lol
