In our top story today, the situation on Tibet
The Chinese have set midnight today as a deadline for protestors to surrender, or face so-called 'harsh punishment.' Around 10,000 police and military personnel are said to be involved in the crackdown.
Anne Holmes is the director of the Free Tibet Campaign in London.
[Anne Holmes, Director Free Tibet Campaign]: "The fact that monks, nuns and lay people are being killed, arrested for simply trying to tell the world that they want to have their country back is a travesty. However I also commend their courage in doing so because they do it knowing the stiff penal
ties their face, the long term jails, possible torture...." Holmes added that she didn't think Tibetan people were against ethnic Chinese, but wanted to preserve traditional Tibetan culture. [Anne Holmes, Director Free Tibet Campaign]: "I think for the average Tibetan person, they have no deep fel
t animosity towards Han Chinese migrants, just as people in any country can get on well with migrants to their country. The problem for Tibetans in Tibet is that their language and their culture are disappearing. And this is being done in a calculated manner by the Communist Chinese Authorities who
have been ruling Tibet for sixty years." Over the weekend, the Chinese communist party (CCP) resisted calls for restraint, and has instead declared a "people's war" of security and propaganda against the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists. The CCP has accused the Dalai Lama of m
asterminding the protests. The Dalai Lama has called that accusation 'absolutely baseless.'

you should wake up Yunjianping!!! We Tibetans are not against lay chinese people. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has always condemn violence and calls for peace even though Tibetans are suffering under chinese.Only through peace we can get a solution but chinese force has always used weapons and have suppressed Tibetans to such an extend that they risked their life by rising up for their rights.

Tibet issue is about Human rights.Its about freedom of expression and its about religious freedom.Its about respect to truth and justice. China has killed our people mercilessly,jailed thousands and tortures many just because we asked for these rights.If China wants Tibetan people to be respect their rules then they should first act on Tibetan people's rights.China lies in the face of the world and hides so many things not only about Tibet but also about China.

Tibet was practically a theocratic slavery society before liberation - a fact that most scholars won't deny. About 95% of Tibetan population was subject/slave to various monasteries; they can be traded, their children remain slave. a woman is worth only a piece of rope according to a Tibetan value book on slaves. If you call China's abolition of old Tibetan theocratic slavery "Culture genocide", then China can equally call US's abolition of black slavery "Culture genocide".

No government of any country in the world has ever recognized Tibet as an independent state. British Foreign Secretary Lord Lansdowne, in a formal instruction he sent out in 1904, called Tibet "a province of the Chinese Empire."

The Dalai clique and overseas anti-China forces used to claim that between the 1911 Revolution and the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Tibet became a country "exercising full authority." Historical facts refute such a fallacy. The simple reality that the installation of the 14th Dalai Lama needed the approval of the national government is sufficient proof that Tibet did not possess any independent power during that period.
