the list of all-timers w/o a french includes mcenroe, connors, becker, and edberg as well. lendl and wilander never won wimbledon. borg ain't that great coz he never won the us. i mean come on, really now.

Great clip, very prognosticative for coming up with this one as Roger is so close to eclipsing Sampras. Thanks FM Also, I think Sampras is one of the greatest, not the greatest.....that's still a bit more opinion that fact to choose one person absolutely (at least till Roger proves it once and for all!)

lol That's why I love these guys. Their commentary is the best. Usually Ted doesn't come up with much good and McEnroe does all the hard work, but Ted really works well with McEnroe.

Exactly, I've lost some respect for Wimbledon. For the sake of making it easier for non-grass players, they've slowed the grass down. So much for tradition.

I don't see them making clay courts faster or hard courts slower for the sake of "better entertainment". It should be about players being skilled enough to adjust and play on all different surfaces.
Historically, THAT's what makes the game interesting - players adapting themselves and changing according to the surface, not the surfaces themselves changing to suit the players.

Borg had some good competition, McEnroe, Geralitis, Connors, but what makes Federer better than Borg is Federer's variety. Borg was like Nadal today, just a baseliner. Federer can do it at all, and is a way better attacking player than Borg ever was.

Serve and volley is the most attacking form of tennis there is. No matter how hard you punch from the baseline, you will never be more attacking than a serve-volleyer, who is always moving forward.
