Donny - The Forgotten (Current Value Remix)

Uploaded by: thebeatkonducta
Video Description:
Barcode Recordings 2007. After extensive listening and talking to other DnB heads, I have come to the conclusion that this must be, in my opinion anyway, the heaviest darkstep tune ever made. Seeing as the original mix was a seriously dark tune, it is a testament to CV that he managed to actually make the remix even more twisted and brutal. For me, this is the ultimate example of why CV can destroy anyone else when it comes to making the heaviest drum and bass on the planet. Absolutely insane.

i know donny&cv are quite fresh, but darkstep and techstep terms are in use for decades now mate!

decades, well I ... ( 1 month ago by troubledherman)
decades, well I wasnt aware of that, back in the day when I used to listen to the old hardware tunes, penetration tunes, tech itch, kemal, dom & roland etc. all me and my mates, and practically everyone I know called it darkside. As far as I know the terms darkstep and techstep are relatively new, as in maybe 4/5 years old?
Im not mad protective over my views, all up for being corrected mate...

i think that's just depending on the place we live... i just wanted u to know that those terms exist for at least ten years now.
by saying 'oldschool' i just wanted to know if u consider 10 years old tunes oldschool.
big up!
Old school ... ( 1 month ago by xFlaredx)
Old school typically isn't like the normal drum and bass you'd hear now. It's a lot slower and the bass is normally just a sub-bass with some reggae vocals.

depends how you want to call it. you had jungle first which was early to mid/late 90s. out of that spawned drum and bass. in 1996 ed rush, trace, nico et al released an album called TORQUE which i suggest you check out. that is what i would call old school tech step. then bad company came along 2001 ear with inside the machine. dont forget tech itch is really the granddaddy of all this. he has been making tunes since time immorial. this modern style of tech itch/cv/limewax/donny...cont
...really morphed ... ( 1 month ago by minimark123)
...really morphed into what it is today in 2006ish. scars on the horizon album by limewax is good example. this new sound is evident and very different to what you would hear being released on hardware for example. it is changing again over the last few months. CVs new work is insane. and new artists that are more removed from "drum and bass" are in the scene, peter kurten, hedj, centaspike, idoleast to name a few. i welcome the new style, having had 10 years of techstep this is welcome.

Its interesting to see how everyone is quite serious about sub genre labels. I have always found it quite amusing how things get over categorised. It sometimes takes an emphasis off what is actually going on in the tune. I now tend to use sub-labels on a purely comical note. Although, and im sure people like minimark123 will agree with me, I am loving the new 'pneumatic drill-step' that has emerged lately courtesy of CV in particular!

Even though I still believe there are many sub-genres, I just really listen to the song and enjoy it. That's what we're supposed to do.
