I have a Les Paul from 79 that still plays as good as it did when I bought it. I have an Ephiphone that is 8 years old that has electronic issues. I am told that the hardware is better now, but the Chinese can not be trusted for consistant quality overall.

How many versions of the Epiphone Les Paul are there? Mine for instance came with grover tuners right out of the box and it stays in tune for ever. I can play it for 3 hours straight, leave it for a couple of days and it's still in tune when I pick it up.

johnh394, I have played both. Epi's are inconsistent in quality. I currently own a PRS SE and I think they're fantastic. You can't go wrong with one of those.

Bottom line. Epi's are ok for the price but anyone who thinks a Epi is as good as a USA Gibson is crazy. With that said I will say Gibson are overpriced.

It's made by a loother, it's not mass produced, like most other guitars. That's why it costs so much, I hope that makes sense.
