I do believe this time in Johnny's life was his best!....so much better sounding with Tom Compton on drums.....Jeff rocks on bass, but I prefer Jon Paris!....nobody ever did it quite like J.W. ....great stuff.....thanx!

I know Johnny is on the rebound, but it's too bad people who are seeing him that never saw him before are only seeing a shadow of his former self......a live J.W. concert is an unbelievable rockin' stompin' event! He is the all time ultimate rocker that plays licks in a span of 4 beats I've never heard any modern shredder pull off....it's all about timing, and J.W. was the absolute master of that!

Oh yea, saw him live in 1985 in a small club and sat a few yards from him - he absolutely blew me away. I see a lot of posts about shredders - I don't see any comparison. Shredders use the power of the amp only with a little fast finger motion. Real players like Johnny use both the power of the amp combined with their passion as evidenced by their tone - there is no comparison between such tone and the noise that feedback speed freaks make.

saw em', it was alright, but nothing to go goo goo about, checked out your page, notice ya got Taj Mahal, he was the rudest son of a bitch I ever met, he stepped onmyhand and then leaned over and told me to 'move it'! ha! what a gentleman, I served refreshments at a clubv in Santa Cruz for 7 years and he was the biggest creep I ever met there,, Now , as for Johnny, polite, and very humble in his coming and going off the stage.

Totally agree with you 'the riffer' except that his guitar was ringing better in the early 80s abd before. I prefer the he had when he played only with the firebird ...

What Tone! The Lazer sounds great. Saw him at the Coach House in SJC in 92, Straight into the PA with dual Musicmans. Unending licks that hardly repeat. Johnny Winter has always been the "Real Deal".

Yer right.. its an Erlewine Lazer. Johnny said it was the only guitar that had both, the Fender Srat attack and Gibson round long sustain sound. He uses his Gibson Firebird mainly for slide work.
