So, when men are ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
So, when men are having a good time, it's misogyny, but when men are portrayed as a bunch of pigs and women their helpless victims, it's all in good fun? Why is it that when women get hurt, we call it brutality, but when men get hurt, we call it entertainment? Women aren't the ones who have to spend twelve years in school listening to their feminist teachers condemn their natural behavior and tell them that they are responsible for every atrocity that has occurred in the history of the world.
Things are pretty ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
Things are pretty bleak for men when it's acceptable to make t-shirts saying "Boys are stupid! Throw rocks at them!", and Germaine Greer gets away with saying "Being male is like being a sort of idiot savant."
loqutor: You list ... ( 1 month ago by blufrenchie)
loqutor: You list in your profile that one of your "Interests and Hobbies" is refuting third-wave feminism, and that one of your favorite books is "The Myth of Male Power" by Warren Farrell, Ph.D.
That explains a lot. I don't know if you've had the privilege of attending a university/college, but doing so would certainly broaden your horizons. You are such a bitter young man, and I fear a bit of a misogynist and somewhat gynophobic. Men and women should have the same rights. Period.
I'm afraid this ... ( 1 month ago by blufrenchie)
I'm afraid this conversation is over. I'm not fond of speaking to boys half my age who spout women-hating garbage. For your own good, learn to co-exist with women, cuz we ain't goin' NOWHERE!
Oh, and BTW, I read "The Stand," the book you state you are currently reading, when you were still wearing diapers. Have a nice life...if that's at all possible for you. I really hope it is, but some insolent little boys never do grow up.
I'm not really that ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
I'm not really that bitter. Have you even read Dr. Farrell's book? He's very well-informed, being the only man elected three times to the Board of Directors of NOW in New York City. So, the fact that I disagree with modern feminists makes me a misogynist? That's a terrible way to judge people. And you're right, men and women should have the same rights, which is why I'm opposed to modern feminism, which is making women a privileged class and men a disposable class.
Feminism has had ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
Feminism has had its day. Now, it's all about making corporations pay women the same as men who do more work than they do. What did I say that was so misogynistic? Is it my refusal to accept the idea that women are, as Elizabeth Stanton said, "Infinitely superior to men"? Is it the fact that I actually acknowledge that there is domestic abuse perpetrated by women against men? Nobody's going to take you seriously if your best rebuttal is a series of false ad-hominem attacks.
As far as I'm ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
As far as I'm concerned, this discussion is far from over. You insulted me with no backing to your claims. Labeling someone as a bigot simply because they disagree with you is an evasive, cowardly tactic, and it's the main reason I'm apprehensive to identify myself as a liberal nowadays. Your calling me a misogynist and a gynophobe is not only unwarranted, it's totally false. I'm not going to let this rest until I get an apology from you.
Personally as a man ... ( 1 month ago by IamKeyif)
Personally as a man I find this video very funny. If guys are honest with themselves and think of how they behave when "out with the boys," they know this commercial is an accurate portrayal of men in a specific situation. It does not mean that all men are that way all the time. Everybody needs to just lighten up. This is not the worst thing out there. If anyone wants to read studies on the differences and similarities between men and women check out David Buss Ph.D.

loqutor, As for a conversation being over, if someone says "No", she means "No." You being mean and forcing it just because you want to continue is not cool and could be taken as a threat. Fabian Cash

I'm not threatening her. She made an unfair accusation against me, and I want her to own up to it. And in the future, please mind your own business.
When I see someone ... ( 1 month ago by IamKeyif)
When I see someone threatening someone, regardless of gender, it "is" my business as a human to say something and not stand idly by. Chivalry is not dead to some of us. Also, saying "this conversation is over" is the colloquial equivalent of a "cease and desist" order and should be respected.
So, when a man ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
So, when a man wants to be treated civilly, he's being threatening? I see how it is. It's hard to respect someone saying "this conversation is over" if they say it right after they insult you. Especially if they insult you multiple times in the same comment. The moment she apologizes for insulting me, I will forgive her and never say a word to her again. It's that simple.
loqutor, Based on ... ( 1 month ago by IamKeyif)
loqutor, Based on your "refuting third-wave feminism" on your profile and your choice of words is it any wonder that she feels that you are "a bit of a misogynist and somewhat gynophobic." Your tone does not ask for civility but asks to be argued with and with your name "loqutor" someone would easily feel that you are looking to argue. Since you are a male, and do have more strength, people can easily take what you say as a threat. Being dogmatic in your "leftism" is no better that the "Right"
If you were F2F, ... ( 1 month ago by IamKeyif)
If you were F2F, instead of miles away, would you have felt insulted? Nonverbal communication matters! Also, given that Blu has multiple degrees and is older, the only way you would have talked is in her classroom. One must show respect to get respect. Blu's comments started out jokingly and then you started in with statements about women not portrayed as sex objects and that women do not work as much as men. These are inflammatory you accuse her of making claims without proof?
Do some 1st hand ... ( 1 month ago by IamKeyif)
Do some 1st hand research. Look at peer reviewed journals on the gender gap. Ask your mom, your grandmother, your girlfriend, any female that will talk to you. In the 20's there was a sexual movement and women started to gain rights then the after WWII men came home from the war and between that and McCarthyism women were shoved back into the home. You spoke your mind and I did not see her asking for an apology from you. That is pretty much equality.
Well, yeah, maybe ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
Well, yeah, maybe my choice of words was a bit off. But the truth is, men are more focused on making money than women, who focus more on having balanced lives. As a result, men are more willing to make pay-raising decisions, such as relocating, commuting greater distances, taking on more responsibilities, and working longer hours. Think about it this way--if women really are paid less than men, why does anybody hire men anymore? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just hire women?
I never said that ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
I never said that women aren't portrayed as $ex objects--they often are, and when it happens, a good number of people shout out against it, because they find it morally wrong, which it is. However, I've rarely heard anybody speak out against men being portrayed as success objects. In this manner, men are even more objectified than women.
The difference ... ( 1 month ago by loqutor)
The difference between me and her is that I never attacked her personally. She may have a point about me having some bitterness towards women. I grew up with my mother throwing phones and dishes at my father, kicking and hitting him, and bad-mouthing him when he wasn't around. My father never raised a finger in his own defense. That doesn't excuse it, I know, but I'm certainly not a misogynist. I'm not anti-female in any way. I want men and women to have true equality, not reverse the power.
