:-( ACC's passing is a sad loss to the world indeed. Perhaps the greatest visionary of our time.
When I think of how many hours I've spent listening to your posts Dude, it strikes me you must have spent countless MORE hours editing & uploading them.
Thanks Dude. Your work IS appreciated for sure!

I can't think of a greater loss in the last few decades that will affect both the scientific & sci-fi communities. Through his work in fiction, he inspired so many people for the better part of a century to make his profound vision a reality. He will be sorely missed.

If Arthur C. Clarke ... ( 7 months ago by engineally)
If Arthur C. Clarke did, in fact, go to his grave with secrets as some are suggesting here, I'm sure that he had a very good reason for keeping those secrets, because from what I understand of him, and watching his programs most of my life, he was all about informing the public about our history, the strangeness of our planet and the things we deliberately (or otherwise), keep ourselves blind to. If he kept secrets, I think it was for our own welfare?

No bloody wonder he was so secretive towards the end of his life! You'd be secretive too if your phones were tapped, your mailed being read and you were being watched!!

I've got secrets that I keep from the rest of you. Does that make me no better than scum ?
Do you have no secrets from anyone ?
Rest in Peace, Arthur C. Clarke.
A true visionary with an ability to inspire thought in others.
The other fact that ... ( 7 months ago by RoadRunnerLaser)
The other fact that Space-Elevator supporters neglect to understand is that such a structure would EVENTUALLY suffer impact from just about everything in orbit of Earth up to its furthest reach. Great fun to play with in a simulator, not such a good idea in practice. That doesn't mean that ideas from the concept cannot be adapted and adopted, however.

there is a knot in the wooden door jam in the room i ritually smoke my herb in that looks just like a sun descending behind an uncapped-pyramid, just like the trapezoidally-foreshortened monolith picture in this video. it synchronistically caught my attention. thedude speaks volumes, even unconsciously!

arthur c. clarke was a brilliant guy
i get a little irked when people flout the misconception of "one of his works being made into a movie", which is referring to 2001 a space odyssey, which was written by both him and stanley kubrick and released as a movie first, not the other way around
regardless tho, a true asset to the science and science fiction fields

Gravity sails and the speed of light squared are just a heartbeat away. Everything is about to change. Everything about to emerge is still beyond our ability to imagine. Linear time is over, soon. This will literally blow 99.99% of minds on this planet.
