While I think that you did a pretty good job laying out what's important in squatting(mobility, flexibility, muscular balance, correct form, corrective exercise), I don't necessarily with how you address these issues. For example, I wouldn't recommend dynamic warmup exercises that involve any kind of rotation of the lumbar spine, although this has traditionally been done a lot by S&C coaches.
There's recent ... ( 1 year ago by carnasaur)
There's recent evidence that the lumbar spine should be trained for stability rather than mobility, so many of your twisting movements are actually counter productive. Even Eric Cressey and Mike Robertson of Magnificent Mobility fame have stopped recommending them(and they have them in their DVD).
Any torso rotation ... ( 1 year ago by carnasaur)
Any torso rotation should be done through the thoracic spine rather than the lumbar spine, and even then I think they should be done with caution, since from what I've read, most people have hypermobile lumbar spines and immobile thoracic spines.

I also would've liked to see some extra prehab stuff like foam rolling. I think it should be an integral part of the warmup before any stretching. An otherwise decent production though. Better than most of the other free stuff I've seen. Just my 2c...

My plan was to include restorative measures in a different video. Foam rolling is all the rage right now, but my personal opinion is that if people learned some myofascial release techniques they'd probably get better results. Not being a licensed massage therapist, I don't know if I could give competent advice however.

Here are my thoughts. In athletics and in life, you twist. Nothing should be undertaken with a mind to increasing mobility at the expense of stability. I, personally, do not view mobility as separate and distinct from other fitness qualities such as flexiblity, stability, and strength. They are all interconnected.

As far as windshield wipers are concerned, I think that, if done correctly, can be a stability-building exercise. I am not an MD however, and if someone like Sahrmann recommnends against it, then they should probably be listened to quite seriously.

Hey Johnny. I just wanted to say that this series is great and widespread at the internet communities I participate in. Do you have any plans on doing a Bench RX or Dead RX? That would really be appreciated, even though the squat without doubt is the hardest move technically.

Thanks a lot Steve. Actually, my name is Boris. Johnny is my friend (and much better at DLing than I) and we've discussed doing some deadlift videos as well. Probably won't happen right away, but we'd really like to.
