POINT IS now when you want a decent monitor you need to pay 2000$ for an eizo or this gateway the lcd display market with all its fucking performance flaws really fucking sucks.
I understand what ... ( 1 month ago by gadgettts)
I understand what you're trying to say and I agree with most of it, but did't you just comment on our EVGA GTX 260 review that graphics cards used too much power? Large CRT displays were THE LARGEST consumer of power on a desktop... From an environmental perspective, I'm glad they're gone.
You do have to ... ( 1 month ago by gadgettts)
You do have to remember that the average size of a CRT monitor during the height of its popularity was 17". A large screen was 19" or 21" -- Pricing ran between $200-$1000 depending on the quality of the tube and you almost never saw the abundance of connection options like you do on a modern LCD. It was only during the death throes of CRT tech that prices dropped and features skyrocketed. Overall LCDs are cheaper, better for the eyes, more feature-rich, and higher-quality.

Youre right about power comsumption 17"/19" crts used 100 watts, just wish they could make lcds good at everything and they apparently cant, dead pixels, lousy view angles, lousy color reproduction and contrasts, screen latencies are still an issue, and its unacceptable to me! its also unacceptable they actually make some lcds with stands you cant even adjust and or that dont have dvi connectors in 2008, this should be standard on all cds,not luxuries Big thumbs down for lcd display makers.
And not only that, ... ( 1 month ago by 8309400)
And not only that, now that they only make 16:9 wide screens and are phasing out 4:3 lcds, you cant do accurate photographic and graphics work on those wide screen lcds All the pictures are wide streched and make people and objects look short and thick, images are way too stretched out and theres no way around it unless you can by a longshot modify the resolutions on the screen so as to get 2 black cars at each end of the screen to get a accurate view of images + u lose the size factor! sucks

It's really stupid at this point in time to waste 1700,00 $ for old 2D tech. 3D is already scaling upwards, 22" are available and 26" will be soon (like IZ3D). If you are an enthusiast gamer, why waste a lot of money to stay with 2D (which is something really obsolete 2-3 years from now)?

trakkaton,
I appreciate your comment and respect your opinion, but my own personal view is that 3d displays are nowhere near replacing their 2d counterparts. I've seen some of the most advanced 3d displays on or close to the maket, even a few that are still in the lab... and though the "cool" factor is there
, I wouldn't use a 3d display on a computer I plan to use every day. I'm sure the time will come, but probably not within then next 5 years. Peace, Fr. Robert

This thing is amazing, it even has composite and component! I just saw this thing for a measly $1,099.99 on newegg which is an amazing price!
Hey, is there a ... ( 2 weeks ago by MoonOvIce)
Hey, is there a noticeable difference between 6ms and 2ms? I've seen some Amazing Acer 24inch (big enough for me) monitors with 2ms and I wanted to know. I would be using it strictly for PC/console gaming and want to know if there's a difference in that with say...FPS games or very fast games in general (Devil May Cry 4 comes to mind).

MoonOvice,
Wow... nice find. $1100 for this monitor is REALLY good. Peace, Fr. Robert

MoonOvice,
I have both 6ms and 2ms displays in the lab. There is a difference between the two when dealing with REALLY fast motion on HD video, but only if you're looking really closely. Peace, Fr. Robert

I've looked on NewEgg 11/20/08 and it is now down to $999.99.

Yes, I checked today and I was amazed considering the quality of this monitor. Granted the contrast ratio compared to other monitors may not be the greatest but still.

I like LCD's, but I think tube displays are still the way to go for gaming.
