People call something soulless when they have a musician's rendition of penis envy because they can't face the fact of a certain person being better than they are. Apologists say something has soul to excuse the mistakes made in performing a piece. I view either context as being dishonest to a certain degree.

the music man he plays was built 100% to his specific requested specs. All the Ibanez's he played were just high level production guitars.

For 4 thousand euros you can get 4 ibanez guitars that are equal or better in quality then the MM Petrucci model (without the piezzo). So it depends on how thick your bank account is. The music man models are between 2-4 thousand euros each. Both are awesome guitars but with a 500-1000 euro ibanez, you can nail almost all the DT sounds.

except for the custom body shapes he had built...and custom graphics...custom pickups...etc etc etc. Please don't assume things you haven't researched. They even had a model specific control layout and even a flame maple J-Custom line were made. Those guitars are very sought after now by collectors and fans alike. Oh, and the neck pickups were always turned around in the guitars as per Johns specs. Another nice touch.

Nothing in particular, petrucci just liked it that way. I suppose it would allow you to raise the adjustable coils slightly and accentuate the coil being used closer to the neck, but thats about it.
