The look is kind of Billy Idol, but the costumes remind me of a Duran Duran video. It has a kind of Mad Max feel to it. VERY eighties! Why the song seems to have the Loch Ness Monter rising up out of the Loch I have no idea.

Actually, Billy was in Generation X in 1976 & The Police wasn't official till 1977. So he had a year on them. But at the time of this video (1983) everyone had blond spikey hair. Including David Bowie. Idol was just so huge at the time that people claim him as the originater of the style.

I'd like to comment, that this song is NOT gloomy (WTF). Synchronicity 1 will explain it, listen to that first, or just look up what synchronicity means. It's talking about events that are oddly related. Just listen to the first one. :D

I like this song, because it reminds me of working an unchallenging job. We despise what we do, but continue in the muck and drudge. However, "many miles away" there is something sinister and free. It's daydreaming. A doctor will dope your kid and call that behaviour ADD today. To me, now, it's a personal description from a genius breadwinner of a typical nuclear familiy, who's vicariously being a beast in his head.
Of course, when I was a kid, I liked the slime and monster allusions:D

I am going to see The Police tribute band, Invisible Sun on Friday, Dec. 5. They are playing at Frank Cariola's Sundance in Rocky Point,NY. Thats 60 mile drive from Manhattan (90 mns). The Pretenders/ Cars tribute band , Talk Of The Town are also playing that same night. Bring back all the great music. I love The Police.
