Hey there! I`m working hard now to get decent gaming hardware and I`m stuck cause I dont If I should spend more than 2000
£ to get that XPS with 8800 G card or maybe I should just buy 20 Inch S Bravia + PS3/X360 for less than 1000£ and I still would have money for reasonable priced notebok.... Now I just don`t have a clue what to do... what would you recomend?

I am a PC gamer. I grew up on PCs when friends had Atari 2600, I had TRS-80. So that is where this advice is coming from. I feel consoles are very linear with few exceptions (ie GTA and it's clones) While currently the PS3 and Xbox 360 are drawing lots of gaming developers that are making console games and then converting them to PC games (like the POS Alone in the Dark) -- usually the trend is the other way. ... more ..

. It is easier for a small game developer to release a PC game than it is to wade into the console market, so you tend to get more verity and creativity in the PC realm. Since you usually don't travel with consoles, (meaning you don't really need a laptop) I would look into a desktop rather than the xps m1730.

. You can get a lot of bang for less buck in a desktop plus easier upgradeability. Desktop companies to check out Falcon NW, Dell, HP, Sony -- Stay away from Alienware -- we got a 6K desktop with a hole in the box and rather than giving us a new one, we had to wait for our "new" desktop to get fix or a huge restock fee. (this was pre dell buy-out but we still don't trust them)

Ok now I have opened my eyes.... I`m still addicted to games like Starcraft, WCII/III, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.... and I can`t wait for Starcraft II... none of those games are on consoles. I`m in UK just for 1 year so I need something portable when I`ll be going back... Ok off me go to work now... thx for respond and great review... :)

There are currently two cards avail. 8700 and 8800. I recommend you start out with 8800. It took almost 3 months to receive our upgrade 8800 cards. As for CS... I haven't played that in a very long time but Crysis, cod4 run good at medium 25-35fps. BF2 runs really well at 40+ fps at highest settings. So I would guess it would run cs:s fine. I would just seriously consider looking at a desktop of same money and decided if you want to carry it around.

on average i see ~113 FPS while listening to 5.1 music off media center, and recording the morning news for when i want to watch while on the C-Train to work. this is plugged in however, due to the throttling however, when in battery i see upwards of 20 FPS, due to teh massive 84 watt average drain from the battery(lasts about 1.7 hours). I'm glad i got a adapter for the 12 volt power for the pickup, or else it would be a long drive between different places here in Alberta

60 if you have V sync enabled. V sync tops your FPS to the refresh rate as detected or set by your graphics card, or the graphics adapters information about your display

why would you want to replace it, nvidia made a specific board, that houses in fact two separate GPU's. but none the less, it is customer replicable. call dell about it, US and Canada 1-800-387-5757
