its efficient if delivered correctly, tht kick is in the martial art i train in - Qi Kwan Do, however we go straight up to the head rather than feinting to the leg first, but ofcourse can be applied in tht way also

very nice to see a respectful and accurate comment...each martial art calls it something else (obviously since the languages are typically different) in korean karate it is called a twisting kick (biterio chagi)and taught on a regular basis,..

Karate is a waste of time to learn, because when you see them fight, all you see is kicking and punching. All the fancy moves they do in the kata is not used. You might as well learn boxing
 for your arms, and ballet for your legs, because that's all we see when we see karate students, and their teachers fight in competition. Bottom line, if you what to fight like a karate master, then go to ballet classes and buy a punch bag, that way you will not waste your time on useless kata. A

That kick works. The goal o course it no to hit with tremendous power, but to convincingly 'dictract' the opponent in order to continue with another attack.

achilllles, NOT tkd. that's Seiji Nishimura a well-known JKF Karate sensei and clinician. the guy goes around the world teaching, and that kick is one of his specialties. you can also listen to the audio and hear the sensei speaking Japanese and the students replying, "Ossu!"

You're right that in competition you only see punching and kicking, but the reason for that is that elbowing eachother in the face is gone make you as dumb as you in very little time. Most schools do teach how to use techniques like knees and elbows and all the things shown in kata but not in competition, btw stop judging what you don't know about, since karate is a great martial art from which (kyokushin in this case) K1 was born, if you don't like K1 either tell me what martial art is good.
