It's not Joseph Arthur's "version." It's his song. He wrote it, this is a cover. Don't give credit where credit is not deserved. I personally don't like this cover anywho, not up to caliber with REM or Coldplay's talent.

This is a great compilation of art and music. Beg to differ on the 'insult to Joseph Arthur' comment. The lyrics to this song are fabulous - but speaking as a writer, sometimes the writer can't make the words come alive. The combination of Michael and Chris reaches in and grabs my heart. Sunshinewings - really nice job on the video.

have to disagree i'm afraid. i think joseph arthur's voice is way better suited to this kind of song. I also think it's lost something in being played slightly faster. Not to say this is bad, but seems very average compared to the brilliant original.

Hi W-child.
Since you had the voice of reason, I gave the Joseph Arthur version another listen. Stipe has him on vocal passion hands down - BUT - Arthur far outdoes Chris Martin there. I just noticed there's a REM/J.Arthur post of this song that I'm going to check out....And Anyway....my hats off to the depth of the lyrics - they do make the song.
