Dir en grey has not only played hard music for ages (just listen to Gauze, there's a lot of screamy stuff on there and Berry is pure thrashy speed metal goodness) but they have wanted to play harder music for ages.
They also have alread broken into America and the UK.
They are a band that loves to play a lot of different styles of rock and always has been.

I've been following Dir en Grey since the days of Macabre. It's no lie that they wanted to appeal to western audiences, and that their music keeps changing.
BUT, that's the whole point. Withering to Death is different from Kisou, just as Gauze was different from Missa. They are always evolving.
I might not like their new screaming styles, but saying that Kyo can't sing now is ridiculous. In every album he hits even higher notes (without falsetto) and breaks new records of pure emotion.
