I've heard this played hundreds of times, by so many different pianists, but to hear Joplin play it, you can just FEEL the essence of it. What an unappreciated genius of his time.

Um, at the time, this was the most sophisticated music ever created, right? it incorporated almost every known musical idea of the day. what a genious Joplin was... and i find it plenty dynaimc. maybe yoy should have taken 1st place

i am not sure the player piano technology of the day included dynamic recording, in fact, I know it didn't. Joplin sat at a piano driving a steam paper cutter that cut the roll of paper, only recording key down and hold, nothing else. No pedial positions were recorded, and no velocity or pressure on the keys. Listen to the added figuration Joplin adds to the piece (those little 'drag' lines between chords) I wish we could hear Joplin's dynamics, I bet they were awesome!

The most difficult ... ( 1 week ago by Twizzledoc187)
The most difficult part of this song for me to play is the second movement right @ 2:44 when the key changes. Of course joplin is playing the right hand an octive higher than it was written but HECK I love to hear the originator BLOW this song out of the water. I bow down in pure sense of awe to my favorite composer of all time.

It isn't Joplin ... ( 6 days ago by paulhirschberg)
It isn't Joplin playing. There are extra notes on the left hand, the tempo is too fast, and the right hand is an octave high. He always played his music exactly as written, and never too fast. This is most likely from a player piano roll.

This is NOT Scott Joplin. I would think Joplin would actually play this correctly since he wrote it. This is not as good as him.

This is my favorite song of all time. This is a song that takes a LOT of practice to learn! especially the second movement...it is worth the time spent practicing though when you can start recognizing the sounds of Joplin coming out of your piano through the movements of your own two hands :)

Wow. You have no idea what you are talking about. It was recorded on a pianola roll. The tempo is just fine, actually its exactly correct. The "extra notes" are called embellishments that Scott Joplin added while he played.
