To those of you who are from Michigan, you know of the 1953 Beecher Tornado(F5). It went over Mark Farners home, blew out windows pushed his barn to a lean, touched down about 1/4 mile east and keped going killed over 130 people and he was lucky. All of the guys are great people. From real good familys.

Thank God I got to see GFR w/Mark one last time in '96. Had their live album and played it till the grooves wore out in the early 70s. Then got a job working for the Grand Trunk RR in MI when I turned 18...Irony!!

Como dicen ahora..
¡chida tu banda! maestro Mark Farner con Mel Schacher y Don Brawer; en requinto y voz, bajo y baterìa respectivamente. Muy buen grupo de Rock de los 70s.

What where GFRR's major influences? What bands I mean. I really have tried to decrypt in their sound which ones could be, but I really can't. They ARE very unique.

I think they were atleast to some extent influenced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Their first album is quite similar, with less experimentalism and more "funky" guitar rhytms.

WOW! Were rockers ... ( 2 days ago by soundsgrt88)
WOW! Were rockers genetically engineered..what an ultimate picture of what virile men should look like. Spandex is very unforgiving and these guys look great. Instead our generation's contribution is ass-crackin baggy pants, rap, and male singers that look like my sister. Even with long hair back then, their image still screams: I am man-hear me roar. Today, it's : just a whimper asking for more mousse. Also, vocals are powerful yet full of harmony and contol. Instrumental skills: super

Lots of Motown influence too, from their Flint upbringings and proximity to Detroit.
I think their Live ... ( 20 hours ago by Daivicelt)
I think their Live Atlanta Pop Festival double album set has the best rendition of Heartbreaker. The whole album set showed what the band was really all about. I still have the original 1970 copies & cover bought that next year. I & my cousin who owned it originally, about wore it out back then. I got the double CD version 3 years ago. Love those Marshall stacks.
I've often wondered ... ( 20 hours ago by Daivicelt)
I've often wondered about that. See, the band is from outside of Flint. Basically the east side, Burton Township (which later incorporated). Back then, you didn't cross the black/white lines, physically or musically. Flint north side was black, south and beyond was white. The record label may have had more influence back then, on the band. It was big news in town when they left their first label. You'd have thought we went to war or something with all the local coverage at the time, about 1971.
Soundsgrt88: ... ( 17 hours ago by violetrod)
Soundsgrt88: Perfectly put. Mark in his spandex and bare chest and long hair is the ultimate of manhood; my God, that man had me creaming in my pants and sauteeing my circuits. Today's "singers" don't even know what it's like to present themselves in front of an audience and the audience doesn't know what it's like to have sexy men on stage. What a debacle. Personally I've always loved long hair on guys..esp. if it's on the right body. Mark Farner will always be in my Rock & Sex Hall of Fame!
